Expert meeting: “State Support for Young Veterans and Their Businesses in Ukraine: Needs, Challenges and Solutions”.
On Friday, October 18, Ternopil hosted a meeting on state support for young veterans as part of the project “Business Support for Young Veterans and IDPs.”
The event was attended by military personnel, representatives of NGOs and government agencies, and volunteers. The participants shared their vision of the problems faced by veterans in the legal sphere.
Yuriy Chovgan, Advisor to the Head of the Ternopil Regional Military Administration on Veterans' Issues, raised the problem of obtaining a combatant ID card: “Not all military personnel can receive a combat service certificate. To do this, a person must have fought. Also, the register of persons liable for military service does not “pull up” certificates to other state institutions. That is, veterans and the military, in order to confirm their status for receiving benefits or payments, have to spend additional time and resources to obtain extracts from the register and submit them to government agencies.”
The participants identified the issues of inclusion, universal design and workplace arrangement for veterans with disabilities as a separate area to be worked on. Also, according to the participants, Ternopil and the region have big problems with the transportation of soldiers who have been seriously injured or amputated. Not all of the city's institutions are equipped with auxiliary means to make them convenient to visit. The situation is similar for businesses, which also need additional resources to create comfortable conditions for veterans.
